Agility and Obedience Classes are offered by the Santa Barbara Flyers Dogsports Club

Agility Classes Taught by Karen Van Hoy

Agility classes are taught by instructor Karen Van Hoy of  ”Paws @ Play” Agility group.  Classes are held at Mackenzie Park on Sunday mornings.  The classes offered are Introductory through the Masters level.  Karen has been earning titles and competing with her dogs in AKC and  USDAA  for over twenty years.  This has provided her with an extensive resume of  Agiltiy achievements.

All classes are taught in a safe, positive, and upbeat environment.  Karen has an appointed assistant in the Beginning and Introductory levels to assure adequate attention to newcomers.

Janet Bourque Teaches the Obedience and Rally Classes.

Locations of Obedience classes vary depending on the season.   They are held held in Santa Barbara on Saturday mornings in the winter  and on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings in the summer.

Janet has a Master’s Degree in Education and has spent  a lifetime teaching adult education classes as her career.   She also has had twenty-five years experience competing in AKC Obedience events and teaching others what she knows about the sport.   She has many advanced AKC Obedience and Agility titles on several dogs.

Her teaching methods combine traditional and modern techniques. Food treats, verbal praise, attention exercises, and leash work are used to motivate the dogs to learn.

Beginner classes include instruction in basic desirable dog behaviors–like Sit, Stay, Come, Stand, Down, Leave It, and Walk on a loose leash.

The Advanced classes are geared toward fine tuning  basic skills and/or  preparation for competition in AKC Obedience and Rally Events.
