Your AKC Rally and Obedience Headquarters
The AKC now welcomes Mixed-Breeds!
The purpose of obedience training is to give you tools to communicate with your dog so he will be able to understand what you want him to do. An obedient dog is a better companion because he will behave at home, with other dogs, around other people, and in public. An obedient dog has more freedom and a much richer life because he can be taken many places with the confidence that he will be accepted, respected, and admired.
The American Kennel Club offers all levels of recognition to you and your educated dog.
For those among you who might be interested in the idea of having your
well- mannered pet acknowledged, the AKC offers the Canine Good Citizen award to recognize your progress and achievements at the end of your first training session with the Santa Barbara Flyers. This is the first objective of our Basic Obedience class.
In the last few years, the AKC has devised an ingenious new plan for engaging you in an enjoyable dog activity. It is called “Rally.” Rally is a game that combines basic obedience skills and some of the challenge of working a course similar to Agility—but with none of the sweat. It doesn’t demand a lot of athletic ability on the handler’s or dog’s part, but it does require skill and practice, and the desire to win and have fun with your dog while doing it.
Our club members are Santa Barbara’s unequaled AKC “Trophy Hunters.” During the last three years, they have earned over fifty AKC recognitions in the form of Canine Good Citizen Awards, Rally Titles, and Obedience Titles.
And during the last twenty years, our instructor, Janet Bourque, has achieved the following Obedience Titles: 4CD’s, 3 CDX’s, 3 UD’s, 2 UDX’s on four different dogs. She has also earned AKC Rally Novice, Rally Advanced, and Rally Excellent Titles on two dogs. She has competed and won titles in APDT Rally as well. What these titles stand for is lots of skill, lots of experience, and proof-positive that she can do what she teaches!
If you simply want to come out and work with your dogs, you will be quite welcome to join us in our Beginner class. But if you want to become a part of our “Winners Circle,” move into our Advanced class and start collecting YOUR Blue Ribbons!
